The 32nd International Prize for Biology has been awarded to Dr. Stephen Philip Hubbell, Distinguished Professor of the University of California, Los Angeles, United States. Dr. Hubbell has made outstanding contributions to the science of biodiversity through his large-scale studies on tropical forests, thereby establishing the unified neutral theory to explain evolutionary origin and ecological maintenance of biodiversity.

For this symposium celebrating the prize winning by Dr. Hubbell, world-leading scholars on the biology of biodiversity, including the evolution of biodiversity, ecosystem functions, and ecological mechanisms for maintenance of biodiversity, are invited to discuss various aspects of biodiversity so as to provide directions for the future for both science and society.

The first day of the symposium is for the specialists and students, and all the talks will be given in English. The second day is intended for the general public, with a special lecture by the prize recipient Dr. Stephen P. Hubbell. Other talks on the second day will be given in Japanese, but simultaneous interpretation to English will be available. We look forward to your participation.
