Cecilia Todd, one of Venezuela's great singers, is giving a talk and doing a live show in Tokyo. From the wildness of the plains to urban elegance, she has sung of the beauty of Venezuelan life for no less than a half century. Her graceful voice will invite you to the world of Latin American folk music. In the hot summer night of Tokyo, a Venezuelan breeze will blow through the forest of Komaba.
■Performers
Cecilia Todd: Vocals, Cuatro
Representative singer of contemporary Venezuelan music, based on Venezuelan folk songs and traditional music.
Jesús Rangel: Mandolin, Bandola
Player of the mandolin and the bandola. The mandolin is a central melodic instrument in urban Venezuelan music. The bandola is a traditional melodic instrument in the rural areas and the original form of the mandolin.
Wilmer Alvarez: Guitar
Young guitarist who performs various genres, from Venezuelan folk music, to jazz, to classical music.
Willy Mayo: Percussion
Willy has engaged in the production of and education on Afro-Venezuelan percussion instruments in his studio in Caracas. He has also performed as a percussionist with many Venezuelan traditional musicians.
Edwin Arellano: Contrabass
Multi-player of Venezuelan traditional music, inspired by jazz. Edwin plays the bass, the guitar, the mandolin, etc., and has produced many songs for many artists as a composer and an arranger.
