UTokyo Holds 87th May Festival

May 22, 2014

Date of activity: May 17, 2014 - May 18, 2014

The May Festival, which in 2014 is celebrating its 87th year as one of the University of Tokyo’s school festivals, took place at the Hongo and Yayoi Campuses on May 17th (Sat) and 18th (Sun).

The two campuses, usually marked by their serious academic atmosphere, transformed into bustling hubs of activity as they welcomed approximately 164,000 visitors to the Festival.

As Yasuda Auditorium and many other buildings on the campuses are currently undergoing earthquake reinforcement and renovation, this year’s theme for the May Festival was “A Future Blossoming with Promise – Under Construction.” With this theme in mind, students and professors held performances, concerts, exhibitions and experiments that both visitors and participants alike enjoyed. Also, through the diverse array of food and refreshment stands – from the fresh and original stands operated by first-year students to the international student stands bursting with global flavor – visitors were able to sense the various possibilities of what the future may hold.

The University would like to thank everyone who came to the Festival. Please look forward to the Komaba Festival in autumn and next year’s May Festival!
