Japanese-German Symposium "The Role of Universities in the Age of Globalization: Between Workforce Development and Personality Development"(International Planning Group)

Japanese-German Symposium "The Role of Universities in the Age of Globalization: Between Workforce Development and Personality Development" took place on October 8th at the Ito International Research Center on the Hongo Campus.

The Symposium is organized by UTokyo, German Rectors' Conference, and German Research and Innovation Forum Tokyo, and about 220 people from both Japanese side and German side attended.
After opening remarks by President Junichi Hamada(UTokyo), President Dieter Lenzen(University of Hamburg) and Mr. Robert von Rimscha(Minister, the German Embassy in Tokyo), the following sessions were held: Session1 "Education through Research-Core Mission of the 21st Century University", Session2 "The Internationalization of Higher Education-Developments, Progress and Issues", Session3 "Knowledge, Skills, Competences- What Kind of University Graduates Are We Aiming for?" and Panel Discussion "Recommendations Towards Universities, Politics and Business", and the discussion was heated until evening.
