UTokyo Day at Princeton, celebrated the strategic partnership (International Planning Group)

October 30, 2014

Date of activity: October 22, 2014 - October 23, 2014

President Hamada and some other executive members of the University of Tokyo traveled to Princeton University for “University of Tokyo Day: Celebration of Our Partnership” that was held on Oct. 23. The event was planned to celebrate the strategic partnership that was mutually established between the two universities last year, to facilitate exchanges between professors and students within and across disciplines.

President Eisgruber opened the symposium by touching upon the development of the relationship between Princeton and UTokyo. “This strategic partnership is a major step in our effort to provide our faculty and students with opportunities to engage in meaningful collaborations with scholars from leading institutions around the world,” President Eisgruber said. He further elaborated that the partnership with the University of Tokyo is incredibly deep with many distinguished scholors engaged in a fascinating array of subjects.

In response, President Hamada introduced the new “four-term” academic calendar that will be adopted by the University of Tokyo from April 2015, and said, “We strongly wish to establish a mutually beneficial partnership, with abundant student exchange from both sides.”

Provost David Lee of Princeton University and Executive Vice President Masako Egawa of the University of Tokyo shared the current movement of the internationalization of each university followed by presentations on the jointly funded projects.

The event was also attended by UTokyo alumni and students currently studying at Princeton as well as participants from Princeton University.

Prior to the event on Oct. 22, President Eisgruber kindly invited the UTokyo delegation to his home for dinner, which was a wonderful opportunity to interact and deepen the relationship between the two universities.
