June 27, 2016

Date of activity: June 19, 2016

The Samurai Japan university baseball team representative selection training camp was held in Batting Palace Souseki Stadium, Kanagawa Prefecture, from June 17 - 19, 2016. Kohei Miyadai, a pitcher on UTokyo's baseball team, was chosen to be a member of the Samurai Japan university team, which will play against the United States in the 40th Japan-USA Collegiate Baseball Championship.

In the recently concluded spring season of the Tokyo Big 6 Baseball League which ran from April 9 - May 30, 2016, Kohei Miyadai dazzled as an ace of the UTokyo team, leaving results of 2 wins (4 losses) and an ERA of 2.05, and contributing much to the team's accomplishments, such as helping the University to achieve 3 wins in one season for the first time in 12 years. He attracted much positive attention for his performance and was thus extended an invitation to the Samurai Japan university baseball team representative selection training camp.

Miyadai wowed the Samurai Japan selection committee during the training camp, as he participated in demonstration games with 49 other players brought in from all of Japan. On the last day, the selection of the 24 team members was announced, and Miyadai was among them. His illustrious achievement marks the first time in 33 years that a UTokyo player has been named to the team, and it also makes him the 2nd UTokyo player ever to join the Samurai Japan team.

The 40th Japan-USA Collegiate Baseball Championship is going to be held from July 12 - 17, 2016 in Niigata, Tokyo and Shizuoka. When watching the games, be on the lookout for the Samurai Japan player Kohei Miyadai. Please cheer on the UTokyo baseball team and look forward to our continued success!

<Comment from Kohei Miyadai>
I'm very glad and honored to be selected as a member of the Japanese university baseball team. In the national team, I will strive to maintain my self-discipline as a student of UTokyo, as well as pitch powerfully to help win the championship for Japan.
