(2007 Fiscal Year)
Center Establishment Objective

University Museum   Preservation, curation and exhibition of collections of research materials in order to provide research and study facilities for visiting scholars, scientists and students.

Cryogenic Research Center   Liquefaction of helium and distribution of liquid helium and nitrogen. Research and development in the field of low-temperature physics.
Open laboratories and common-use instruments.

Radioisotope Center   Providing facilities for use by researchers in the University, organizing training courses for the safe handling and utilization of radioisotopes and managing the use of radioisotopes in the University.

Environmental Science Center   Formulation and implementation of environmental safety measures. Research and education on environmental conservation and safety management. Overall supervision of management, treatment, and disposal of hazardous materials in the University.

Molecular Genetics Research Laboratory   Promotion, education and safety guidance for recombinant DNA research.

International Center   The International Center (Ryugakusei Center) provides various Japanese language courses and offers advice services in academic and personal matters for international students. The faculty members of the Center conduct classes and develop programs to facilitate the integration of international students into the University. Research is also conducted on Japanese language education and on the adjustment of international students.

Research into Artifacts, Center for Engineering   To establish a new discipline for the design, manufacture, use of artifacts and value-creation, centered around abduction.

Biotechnology Research Center   To promote education and researches on biotechnology to solve environmental and food problems.

Asian Natural Environmental Science Center   To carry out international cooperative research, mainly in East Asia, as well as to develop methods of both maintaining sustainability in biological production and conserving the natural environment.

Center for Research and Development of Higher Education   To conduct basic research and study on reform of higher education, and to provide support for the improvement of the curriculum and educational methods of The University of Tokyo.

Center for Collaborative Research   Promotion of project research to expand and transfer to industry the research results garnered in the university, and total management of international and university-industry collaboration.

Komaba Open Laboratory   To promote project research within The University of Tokyo and with outside institutions.

Center for Spatial Information Science   To promote spatial information science and to provide research supporting services using spatial information infrastructure.

High Temperature Plasma Center   To promote interfaculty collaboration on research, education and information exchange in plasma science and technology.

International Research Center for Medical Education   The IRCME conducts research on medical education as well as on international cooperation in that field. The Center sponsors a visiting professorship to a specialist in medical education from overseas for collaborative research and information exchange. It promotes under-graduate and postgraduate education in the University and provides assistance in medical education to developing countries in response to requests from affiliated organizations.

Health Service Center   Providing for the health care needs of both students and staff alike by offering regular check-ups and more specialized treatments as necessary.

Information Technology Center   Providing information technology support to all members of the University and providing supercomputing services to researchers on a nationwide basis, including information oriented educational services, the library information service and the campus network service.

Center for Climate System Research   Developing climate models and conducting numerical experiments with them in order to understand the mechanisms of climate variation, and also providing the models to researchers throughout the country.

International Center for Elementary Particle Physics   International collaboration in scientific research on elementary particle physics using the large proton-proton collider at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN).

VLSI Design and Education Center   To elaborate and enrich VLSI (very large scale integration) design edu-cation in universities and colleges throughout the country by providing them with up-to-date knowledge resources of VLSI technologies including CAD (computer-aided design) usages by supporting the test fabrication of VLSI clips designed by them.

Intelligent Modeling Laboratory   As a part of graduate school education, this laboratory fosters creative talents in highly specialized professions, as well as promoting trail-blazing research and development, which may germinate venture businesses, in the field of“intelligent modeling”.
