Institute of Medical Science
The Institute of Medical Science was established in 1967 through the reform of the earlier Institute for Infectious Diseases. Presently, the institute comprises approximately 650 academic and administrative staff and post doctoral fellows, along with nearly 300 graduate students from the faculties of Medicine, Physics, Agriculture, Combined Arts and Sciences, Pharmacology, Information Science and Frontier Sciences, and is the only institute in the university to have its own hospital. The institute actively pursues from an open-minded perspective both individual research with the aim of refining academic understanding of infectious diseases, cancer, and other specific diseases, and project research aimed at the development of cutting-edge medical treatments through projects such as genome decoding, human disease models, frontier medicine, and the International Research Center for Infectious Diseases' genome/post-genome database. The research results acquired are implemented in medical treatments at the institute's hospital, fulfilling our mission to provide "bench to bedside" trans-relational research and treatment. |
