About the Student Exchange Division

The Student Exchange Division is one part of the Research and Development Department of The University of Tokyo. It's main duties include the administration of student exchange programs with universities in different countries and providing information and handling administrative responsibilities for scholarship applications and other assistant programs for international students accepted in The University of Tokyo. The Student Exchange Division also functions as the office for the administration of the International Center.

The office is located on the first floor of the same building as the International Center on the Hongo campus. The main responsibilities of the Student Exchange Division are outlined below.

  1. International Student Planning and Inquiry Section (Tel. 03-5841-2371/2089, Fax. 03-5841-2352)
    • Acceptance of international students and dispatching Japanese students to study abroad
    • Allowance for Japanese Governments (Monbusho) Scholars
    • Waiving of tution fees through student exchangeprogram agreements
    • Formulating and requesting the budget for student exchange
    • The Student Exchange Committee

  2. International Student Support Section 1 (Tel. 03-5841-2372/2473, Fax. 03-5841-2352)
    • Affairs related to the status of international students' residence
    • Affairs related to the Association of Supporters for International Students
    • Affairs related to scholarships by private foundations
    • Issuing Certificate of Japanese Goverment (Monbusho) Scholarship for the applicable students
    • Follow-up services for former students returning to their own countries

  3. International Student Support Section 2 (Tel. 03-5841-2530/2515, Fax. 03-5841-2352)
    • Short-term student exchange promotion program (Inbound and outbond)
    • University housing for international students
    • Medical expense reimbursement and housing subsidies
    • Honors scholarships for privately-financed international students
    • Follow-up research fellowships for former students returning to their own countries

    • Routine duties of International Center
    • Arrangement of the steering committee of the International Center
