Housing Information

Note: If you are an international student who falls into any of the following groups, you do not need to apply for residence in UTokyo’s accommodations through OSTA. If you are Newly-arrived international students (Research Students) awarded the MEXT scholarship or Taiwan Interchange Association Scholarship, click here.


1.  Prospective international students enrolling at the Junior Division of the College of Arts and Sciences under the PEAK (Programs in English at Komaba)
2.  International students enrolling in the Japan-Korea Joint Government Scholarship Program at Science and Engineering Departments

Regarding application procedures, please contact a person responsible for housing of international students in your department (graduate school, research institute, research center, etc.).
Again, please do not apply for housing through OSTA.


OSTA Login Password

A Login Password is required to make an application through OSTA. If you do not know the password, please contact:

  • Person in charge of support for international students at your faculty, graduate school, research institute or research centre


  • Housing Office (housing-office.adm@gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp)

Important Notes for using OSTA (for International Students)


◆Your term of residence at Mejirodai International Village:
     September or October 2019 -
     *The permitted period of residence is the whole term of your 
       enrollment at the University of Tokyo. 

◆Your term of residence at the International Lodge:
     September or October 2019 – Late August 2020 (1 year)

 ◆Your term of residence at the International Halls of Residence:
      First year student in master's program
      September or October 2019 – Late August 2021 (2 years)
      Student in doctoral program
      September or October 2019 – Late August 2022 (3 years)

  The application period for residence is from 
  June 1, 2019 – June 24 (JST 24:00), 2019.

Notification of selection results  ・・・・・  Late July 2019
If you do not receive the Notification e-mail until July 31, please contact UTokyo
Housing Office.
* You may receive the "Notification of Admission to the University of Tokyo Accommodation" before the announcement of entrance examination results.
However, your residence will be effective only if you pass the examination.

   ・Oiwake International Hall of Residence

          Single for men: about 7 rooms        Single  for women: about 3 rooms  
          Wheelchair-accessible room:2 rooms + 1 room for caregiver
