Prof. Amit Agrawal

  • Prof. Amit Agrawal joined the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 2004 and is currently an Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Dean of International Relations, IIT Bombay. His research interests are in Micro-scale flows, Development of novel bio-microdevices, Theoretical fluid mechanics, and Turbulent flows. He has graduated 26 PhDs and advised several postdocs and Master’s students on these and related topics. He has published more than 200 journal articles and awarded several patents with his students. 200+ news outlets in more than 50 countries have covered his novel results on transmission of COVID-19.

    Prof. Agrawal has authored a well-received book, and the work from his lab has appeared on the cover page of prestigious journals. He serves as Editor of several reputed journals (such as ASME Journal of Heat Transfer) and is an elected Fellow of the prestigious Indian National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences India, and Indian Academy of Sciences. He features in a flipbook for kids ‘They Made What? They Found What?’. He has been bestowed with several awards including the country’s highest scientific honor – the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for his seminal contributions.
