In this performance, the Intermediatheque’s museum space will turn into a theatrical playground. The University Museum, the University of Tokyo and SEAMI collaborate on the theatrical project “Play IMT” staged at the Intermediatheque. The fourth event of this project will consist in an experimental performance around the playful meaning of its title.
To play with exhibits, to play within the exhibition space, to play with visitors... The issue of how actors can play within the Intermediatheque as a playground is directly related to the possibilities of the actors’ physical expression under the inspiration of the exhibition space and the objects shown. This time, in order to draw maximum potential from actors as players, we focused on the actors’ own ideas to experiment on forms of physical expression that are only possible within the Intermediatheque. Ever since the conception of the “Play IMT” project, by actively integrating the Intermediatheque collection and activities as well as people who gather there within the process of theatrical creation, we have consistently explored what kind of theatrical expression can be crystallized within a museum space. In the present performance, several units sharing the common theme of playing will occupy the Intermediatheque in its totality. Along with the actors, and in a playful mood, please enjoy the special time-space experience of the Intermediatheque turned playground.

Theatrical creation project “Play IMT”
The University Museum, the University of Tokyo and SEAMI collaborate on a theatrical project staged at the JP Tower Museum INTERMEDIATHEQUE. This project is an experiment on theatrical creation within a museum space. While pursuing new possibilities for creative activities in relation to the scientific specimens and museum space proper to the Intermediatheque, we attempt to give birth to new forms of theatrical expression. In this context, and in order to build up the process of theatrical creation in a public form, we regularly hold related events at the Intermediatheque, with all the meanings of “play” as our keyword.
