2013 Autumn-Semester Matriculation Ceremony

The 2013 University of Tokyo Autumn-Semester Matriculation Ceremony was held in the Ito Hall at the University’s Hongo Campus on Friday, 4 October.

At 10am, the ceremony opened with the University orchestra’s performance of the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1 in D major. At 10:10am, the University president, executive vice presidents, vice presidents, deans and directors took the stage in their academic gowns.

University President Junichi Hamada and Hiroaki Aihara, Dean of the Graduate School of Science, gave welcome addresses. Student representative Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh, master’s student of the Graduate School of Public Policy, and Samuel Brustad, undergraduate student on the PEAK program, gave the student oath. The ceremony closed at 11:00am.

Approximately 250 new students from graduate school and 20 from undergraduate school and 100 family members attended the ceremony. The total student intake at this time was 540 (23 PEAK students, 253 master’s students, 226 doctoral students, 41 professional degree students), including 358 international students.
