The University of Tokyo Special Funding for International Student (UTokyo Fellowship) Recipient Certification Ceremony

The University of Tokyo Special Funding for Overseas Student (UTokyo Fellowship) 2014 (Autumn Entry) Recipient Certification Ceremony was held in the Main Meeting Room of the Student Support Center on Friday, Nov. 26.
The UTokyo Fellowship program aims to “award a research grant-in-aid to outstanding, self-financed overseas students so that they may be able to focus on their academic research, and to further promote the enrollment of overseas students. This funding was first established in 2004 and a monthly stipend of either JPY 200,000 or JPY 150,000 is paid until the final month of the Standard Program Duration.
12 doctorate and 9 Master’s students, a total of 21 graduate students, were confirmed as recipients of the UTokyo Fellowship this October and were awarded their Recipient Certification from Prof. Takeo Fujiwara, the Deputy Director of the International Center.
Prof. Fujiwara gave a moving word “This scholarship was set up so that each student can actively engage in their research work without the need to worry financially. I would like you to make the most of this opportunity. Also, I hope that the activities of international students, such as yourselves, who have diverse background will add to the value of this university” This was followed by a word of thanks from Ms. Deng, Shiying (China) a doctorate student in the Department Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering representing all the recipients. “I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff of the university and for the opportunity to be able to carry out research in the field of architecture under a faculty whom I admire. With this I would like to concentrate on my research to produce great results.”
