Ambulance with University of Tokyo Stickers to be Presented to the Republic of Vanuatu

January 4, 2016

Date of activity: November 17, 2015

On November 17, 2015, a donation ceremony for an ambulance featuring stickers bearing the University of Tokyo's name was held at the Kawasaki City Fire Department. This ceremony was conducted as a part of a volunteer medical service to the Republic of Vanuatu by the Kawasaki North Rotary Club. A separate ceremony commemorating the donation will be held at Vanuatu's Port Vila Central Hospital in February 2016.

Gen Murakami, a student of the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Engineering, made the stickers. He is a member of and in charge of design in the Historic Rally Abroad Project 2016. This unique project is officially registered as a class at the University. For this project, students work hard to restore old vehicles, conduct complex shipment procedures, and support their vehicles during the rally event. Through their unique experiences in the global motorsports world, the students train themselves, their engineering skills and their manners in business society, while also fostering their own international viewpoints.

Noboru Matsunami, a member of the Rotary Club who cooperates with the Rally Abroad Project as a driver, proposed that the project make stickers as a part of its international education efforts.

This ambulance with University of Tokyo stickers is expected to save the lives of many people in Vanuatu. You can learn more about the Historic Rally Abroad Project 2016 at this link (Japanese language only): http://rallyemusashi.com/
