Seven Universities Cheering Squad Dance Performance Concert Held

August 29, 2016

Date of activity: August 7, 2016

The cheering squads of the universities participating in the 7-Univ. competition held a dance performance concert at Yasuda Auditorium on August 7, 2016. The UTokyo Cheer Squad organized and carried out the event.

This event did not count towards the scoring in the 7-Univ. competition, but the crowd was energized by the performances and the efforts put forth by each university's cheering squad as they wished for the success of 7-Univ. and a victory for their university. A parade combined with a promotion of this event was performed on the previous day, August 6.

During the first part, each university gave a performance, and during the second part, a brass band and cheerleaders from all seven universities performed. It was a long event, stretching beyond 8 hours, but many alumni of each university and people of different nationalities came to watch.

Performances full of each university's individuality were given through both the first and second parts. The brass band and cheerleaders from all of the universities performed one song together at the end of the second part.

<Comment from Shinta Minezaki, the captain of UTokyo Cheer Squad>
Thank you very much for coming to see the dance performance concert and the previous day's parade. Many more people came this year than usual. Taking this event as an opportunity, I would be very happy if we could get people even more excited for the 7-Univ. as we move closer and closer to its conclusion. Since I entered UTokyo, we have never experienced an overall victory in 7-Univ. Particularly since this is my last year, I hope we can see UTokyo achieve a long-awaited victory, and prevent Tohoku University from winning four straight times. We in the Cheer Squad will give it our all!

There is only one month left in the 7-Univ. competition. Please continue to cheer for our UTokyo athletes along with our energetic Cheer Squad!
