2016 University of Tokyo Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony Held

The 2016 University of Tokyo Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony was held at Yasuda Auditorium on Friday, September 23, 2016.
The ceremony began at 10:00 with the University of Tokyo Orchestra's rendition of the first and third movements of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik." President Makoto Gonokami, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Faculties and Graduate Schools and the directors of University Institutes then ascended the stage dressed in their academic gowns. The ceremony continued with a speech from President Gonokami addressed to new students, followed by a speech from Dean of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Hiroyuki Arai. Two new students (Ms. Chang Young Jung, a Doctoral student from the Graduate School of Medicine, and Ms. Ela Bogataj Stopar from the College of Arts and Sciences) then took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the University of Tokyo’s signature song, "Oozora to (With the Open Sky)," by male chorus group Chor Akademie and female chorus group Coro Letizia, and another prominent University song, "Tada Hitotsu (The Only One)," by everyone in attendance.
