Interview Project in Japanese “Let's get to know UTokyo students!”

11 Prerequisites
  • Only students who are registered for one of the non-language GUC courses are allowed to apply.
  • This course is suitable for intermediate to advanced level learners who have been judged to be “Level 4 Upper Intermediate” or above in the level check test which is offered on the Center’s website:  The level is about the equivalent to JLPT N2.
12 Contents Purpose:
This course aims to: (1) develop communication and basic language skills in order to do interview surveys in Japanese; (2) improve overall skills in Japanese through various activities; (3) know the various perspectives of Japanese people through communication with Japanese UTokyo students.
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • Build up oral/aural communication skills in Japanese
  • Understand basic vocabulary and expressions used in interview survey and presentation
  • Ask appropriate questions and give clear answers
  • Learn about the practical Japanese in communication
In this course, students will learn practical academic skills useful for studying in Japanese. This program is composed of 5 classes (1.5 hours each). Through this program students will learn how to ask questions, express their opinions and give presentations in Japanese. Session 3 is an interview session with the Japanese UTokyo students. Students can experience a real interview in Japanese through this activity. On the final day, students will give a 5-minute presentation in Japanese with a question and answer session.
*This is a combination of lecture and interactive class that simulates face-to-face sessions. In principle, therefore, the students are requested to have their camera on during the class.  Active participation is strongly encouraged.

  • “Let's interview UTokyo students!”

  • Interview Analysis
Session 5:
  • In-class Presentation Session
Assignments: students are required to complete an assignment everyday. Students must expect to spend about one hour everyday for an assignment . 
  1. Making a questionnaire(Session 1)
  2. Revision of the questionnaire (Session 2)
  3. data aggregation(Session 3)
  4. Materials to be used in the presentation (Session 4)
