Speaker: Mark Ramseyer, Professor at the Harvard Law School and Nefyn Meissner, Assistant Director of Admissions at the Harvard Law School
Nefyn Meissner, Assistant Director of Admissions at the Harvard Law School, and Mark Ramseyer, Professor at the Harvard Law School, will compare the relative advantages and disadvantages of the J.D. and Ll.M. programs at American law schools.
Currently, most Japanese students apply to the one-year Ll.M. program. In fact, however, the three-year J.D. program presents several major advantages. It is not just that the J.D. program is the standard program for American lawyers. The selection process is quite different. As a result, many students admitted under the Ll.M. program would not be admitted under the J.D. program, but other students not admitted under the Ll.M. program might well be admitted under the J.D. program.
We will discuss in detail the differences in the admissions process and the educations offered under the two programs. The presentation will be in English. The speakers are happy to take questions in Japanese.
All the students who are interested in studying at American law schools are welcome.
