To make the University of Tokyo’s 150th Anniversary Project open to society and to promote it, we have established the University of Tokyo’s 150th Anniversary Project 150-member Committee. Various stakeholders with connections to UTokyo have been named as members.

I am pleased to announce that I was appointed chairman of the 150-member Committee, a group established to celebrate the University of Tokyo’s upcoming 150th anniversary in 2027 and to support the promotion of commemorative projects. The 150-member Committee unites dedicated volunteers who cherish UTokyo together to reflect on UTokyo’s history while also thinking about UTokyo’s mission as an “institution that serves the global public” towards making the next 150 years even better for the world. I would like to support UTokyo’s 150th Anniversary Project through this committee.
As stated in the University of Tokyo Charter, UTokyo seeks the pursuit of truth and creation of knowledge, and nurtures “intellectual citizens with a futuristic global outlook” who go on to fill leadership roles in various fields both within Japan and internationally through the highest global standards of education and research to contribute to the development of humanity as a whole. In order to reach this goal, it is necessary for UTokyo to connect with a broad spectrum of stakeholders and collaborate with society.
The members of the 150-member Committee will do our best to expand endorsement and support for UTokyo by conveying its mission and the pathway towards its realization to as many people as we can through the 150th Anniversary Project.
I earnestly seek your invaluable support and cooperation.
