Short Report

Seminar on Higher Education in Japan was held on the Pulchowk Campus, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University on 24th November from 16:00 to 18:30. There was a short meeting with Dean of Engineering before seminar the seminar was started in F Hall of the Civil Engineering Department. UTAAN member, Dr. Hom Nath Chalise, handled the registration related tasks. More than 100 students participated in the program. Majority of the attendees were bachelor-level Civil Engineering students.

Prof. Dr. Raghunath Jha, welcomed all the delegates. Dr. Jha, who obtained his Ph.D. degree from UTokyo, hearty welcomed all the delegates. As a member of UTokyo Alumni Nepal, he expressed his joy of being able to host such an event together with the University of Tokyo Alumni Association of Nepal. He also expressed his desire to host similar programs in the future.

Opening remarks was delivered by Ram Bhandari, Chairperson of UTAAN. He highlighted the importance of higher education in Japan and also expressed his happiness to be here as an alumni of a Japanese university as well. He introduced all the Japanese delegates and a short video by JNTO was also shown immediately after his speech.
Dr. Yuriko Akiyama, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan, presented in detail about MEXT scholarship opportunities in Japan. Her presentation was then followed by the presentations given during the seminar held at St. Xavier College earlier in the day as well as individual consultation sessions.
