1. Program Overview
1) Program Description
The Amgen Scholars Program provides hundreds of undergraduates each year with the opportunity to undertake scientific research projects at many of the world's leading institutions. Launched in 2006 in the United States, 2008 in Europe, and 2015 in Japan at the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University, the Amgen Scholars has expanded to additional world-class institutions in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
The objective of the program is to provide undergraduate students from different countries (including some from Japan) who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences.
At UTokyo, research opportunities will be provided by various Graduate Schools and Institutions as listed under the Project section.
By the end of their summer experience, students are expected to have acquired the knowledge and skills for conducting research. The students are also expected to extend their international friendship through their collaborative experiences. These experiences will help the students to develop future collaborations in many situations.
- Special seminars and sessions where students can meet and have discussions
- Access to UTokyo campus facilities such as the Library, Health Care Center, and Gymnasium
- Japanese language courses and cultural events
- Excursions etc.

4. Application
| *Usage of Artificial Intelligence* Preparing your application documents is the first step towards your study at UTokyo. In doing so, you will think about what to study there and imagine what the experience may mean to you. In fact, this is indispensable to a successful UTokyo life. The recent development of generative artificial intelligence has made it possible to generate essays with a simple command. However, you should not rely on such technology in preparing your application. Instead, it is important that you write about yourself in your own words. For the statement on this issued by the Amgen Scholars Program, please refer to No. 25 in the Q&A section. |
