― UTokyo D&I Campaign 2022 ―

The University of Tokyo has launched a campaign aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion on campus, and making the university a place where people from diverse backgrounds can thrive. The initiative, called UTokyo D&I Campaign 2022, started in March 2022. Here, we introduce plans and actions related to D&I initiatives from members of the UTokyo community, including deans and directors of various UTokyo organizations.

Actions and Messages

Promoting the realization of a campus where diverse constituents support each other

Kei-ichiro WATANABE, Vice Director, Center for Research on Counseling and Support Services

The Center for Research on Counseling and Support Services provides consultation and support services so that each member of the UTokyo community can lead a healthy university life while maximizing their abilities and individuality. The Center also has strengthened cooperation with the Division for Global Campus Initiatives to enhance understanding of the needs of international students throughout the Center, while paying attention to diversity.

In addition, the Center places particular emphasis on the power of mutual support created by the connections among its constituents: from February to March 2022, mental health talks, yoga programs and other programs were streamed online every morning at 9:00 a.m., and starting in the new semester, events tailored to the needs of students at each campus are being held. These activities are supported by our students who have undergone training to become peer supporters. The supporters include a diverse range of students from different years and departments as well as international students, and new ideas for activities are generated through dialogue among the students.
