Executive Vice President Kaori Hayashi Attended Japan-India Universities Forum.

The "Japan-India Universities Forum", hosted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), was held on January 23, 2023, at the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo. The forum's purpose was to deepen bilateral exchanges between Japan and India further and lay the groundwork for further cooperation between Japanese and Indian universities. The forum brought together 32 presidents from Japan and India (22 from Japan and 10 from India) and was attended by Professor Kaori Hayashi, Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo (UTokyo).

In the first part of the forum, each university reported on its current status and outlook regarding the "Achievements, Results and Lessons Learned, Future Directions and Challenges of Japan-India Exchanges", in which Executive Vice President Hayashi gave a lecture on UTokyo’s efforts in "Regenerating Campus Activities with India in the Post-COVID Age".
She introduced the opening of the University of Tokyo India Office in February 2012 and the efforts to attract Indian students through the Study in Japan Global Network Project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) since 2014. She also announced that she would like to offer degree programs in English to attract more Indian students, and that with India hosting the G20 this year and the G7 Summits being held in Japan, she hoped it would be an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties further and deepen exchanges among higher education institutions.
In the second part of the meeting, roundtable discussions were held in two separate groups. The participants discussed issues and solutions for developing exchanges of young innovative human resources between the two countries under the theme of "Fostering and Exchanging Young Innovative Human Resources in Japan and India".
