Interdepartmental Coordination

The University of Tokyo offers a wide variety of Japanese language education on the three main campuses - Hongo, Komaba, and Kashiwa - for international students and researchers who are affiliated with UTokyo. Some of the Japanese language courses are open to their spouses.

The Division for Global Campus Initiatives started its project to play a core role in coordinating the 10 different Japanese Language Programs offered at UTokyo. We aim to build a sustainable and flexible Japanese language education system to support the development of high-quality education, and to disseminate information broadly and effectively by pursuing the following goals:

  • Present an overall picture of Japanese language education at UTokyo
  • Strengthen email-base responses and information transmission through this portal site for current and prospective students and related persons
  • Facilitate cooperation and information exchange between the Japanese language programs
  • Conduct research, data collection, and analysis to grasp students’ needs and learning goals
  • Arrange working group meetings to build a sustainable system to respond to the various needs
