3. Background
-
- The University of Tokyo India Office was established in 2012 as one of the governmental measures to increase the number of international students coming to study in Japan. We consider India to be one of the most important countries in terms of academic partnership and hope to increase the number of Indian students studying in Japan.
- The University of Tokyo India Office has continually served as one of the "Overseas Offices for Shared Utilization by Japanese Universities" as well as the Coordinator for Study in Japan (India) appointed by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) since 2014 with the mission of visiting high-level universities and high schools, supporting Japan-India students’ exchanges, and promoting Japan-India teachers’ and faculty exchanges. It has broadened its activities to India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal by making use of alumni networks since being appointed by MEXT in April 2018 for "Study in Japan Global Network Project."
