Please give a short introduction about yourself.
Hi Everyone, my name is Aroonima Mukherjee, I am from Kolkata, which is also called the City of Joy, West Bengal.
What is your favorite thing about Hachioji City?
The best part of Hachioji, is going to Takiyama Castle ruins which is very close to my apartment building. Another aspect of living in Hachioji is the greenery and the peaceful serenity.
In what way has your impression of Hachioji City or Japan changed since coming here?
Ever since I have come to Japan, it seems to that I had fallen in love with the country. The food, the people and the overall ambience, made me feel so welcome. The aspect of discipline and having respect for everyone has influenced and inspired me a lot.
What attracted you to choose Soka University as a place to study?
It has been a dream to study in Soka University. Apart from the location and the current setting, I heard stories about the friendly ambience inside the university really inspired me to strive hard and be a part of this beautiful campus.
In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?
I believe being respectful to others and accepting their identity as they are really helped me a lot. Also the fact of really striving to connect with one’s culture actually helped to understand Japanese culture a lot.
Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?
If you want to seek something extra ordinary, then don’t fear in trying something new in life. Everyone travels to countries or goes to countries to study in which they are comfortable in speaking the English, but in order to stand out from the rest of the pack, try taking the road less travelled. Japan is a beautiful country and the people are extremely warm and friendly.
