Please give a short introduction of yourself.
Hi everyone, my name is Guna Surendra Gossamsetti. I am from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. I am pursuing my doctoral degree in the field of space systems at Kyushu Institute of Technology, Kitakyushu. My current research is related to “Future Space Transportation System ”. I did my undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering at SRM University, Chennai. Currently, I am The President of KITFSA (Kyushu Institute of Technology Foreign Student Association). My favorite hobbies are watching movies, cooking and playing softball. I also like to travel and explore many new places. I am also honored to be the recipient of Assuran Scholarship.
In what way has your impression of Kitakyushu City or Japan changed since coming here?
Well, before coming to Japan I only knew Japan as a technology leader. But, after coming and understanding the culture and customs, I feel Japan and India are closely related. This was really a surprise to me. I really never expected to learn Japanese language as I thought it was difficult, but with little effort I was able to learn the language in no time.
What attracted you to choose Kyutech as a place to study?
The current research, “ Future Reusable Space Transportation System ” at Space System Lab attracted me to choose Kyutech as a place of study. Kyutech is one of the best universities in Japan for Engineering studies. Space related research such as rockets and satellite are leading fields at Kyutech along with robotics. Kyutech also supports most of the foreign students with 50 % tuition fee exemption. The student accommodation is also very affordable. There are also many scholarships which support the international students.
In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?
In order to adjust myself to Japanese Culture, punctuality is the most important aspect to be adjusted. Also learning Japanese language helped me to understand and adjust to the Japanese lifestyle. I was also able to make a lot of friends which made my stay simple. Initially the food was also a concern, but I adjusted myself and started liking it.
Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?
Earlier people used to say US is the land of opportunities, but now with my personal experience Japan can be called as the land of opportunities. If you have skill and motivation, Japan is the best place to study and work. Japanese Government has been supporting foreign students with scholarships. Also Japan and India relations are really at the helm, which would also benefit us in finding good job after graduation. May be the language might be a hurdle which can be easily overcome.
