Please give a short introduction of yourself.

I am Bharat Ramanathan currently pursuing Masters in Shizuoka University. I am native to Chennai but currently staying in Mumbai. I did my BTech in Manipal University. My current research topic is designing of multicore microcontroller in VHDL/Verilog. My hobbies include reading novels and playing computer games.

What is your favorite thing about Hamamatsu City?

Music! Whenever one goes to the station, they are mostly greeted by people playing an instrument or singing. Indeed it’s the city of music. Even magic shows and other performances are common.

In what way has your impression of Hamamatsu City or Japan changed since coming here?

If anything it has improved. The orderly way of living and adherence to rules at all places is great about Hamamatsu and Japan. No one breaks the queue or honks unnecessarily. I feel that is the best thing about Japan.

What attracted you to choose Shizuoka University as a place to study?

The research at Shizuoka university really attracted me to choose it as my place to study. The safety and Asian culture of Japan further helped my decision. Also the scholarship and stipend were extra motivators.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

The language barrier needs some time for adapting. The institute offers Japanese language classes which I attended. Although the English speaking Japanese were very less (especially in shops) but once you can speak a few Japanese words, you can communicate very effectively.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?

I definitely encourage everyone to apply to study in Japan. It would be a great experience and an excellent opportunity to learn.
