Please give a short introduction of yourself.
I am Puneeta from India. I came to Japan to do Ph.D. in Fisheries Sciences from Hokkaido University. I did my undergraduate studies from University of Delhi and my post-graduation from Pondicherry University. I live in Gurgaon which is the adjacent city to New Delhi.
What is your favorite thing about Hakodate City?
My favorite thing about Hakodate is its beauty. Hakodate has so many colorful seasons which is breathtaking. The second best thing about Hakodate is its people. They are very friendly and kind. Fruits and vegetables in Hakodate is very fresh and delicious, which is very good thing for vegetarian people like me.
In what way has your impression of Hakodate City or Japan changed since coming here?
At first I was little hesitant about exploring Hakodate because of my poor Japanese language ability. So I learnt basic Japanese which helped me to manage speaking with people around me and slowly I started exploring more about Hakodate and enjoyed every bit of it.
What attracted you to choose Hokkaido University as a place to study?
I chose Hokkaido University because I wanted to do research in cephalopods and Hokkaido University has got one of the best facility and researchers for doing research in cephalopods.
In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?
I learnt basic Japanese language skills which helped me in day to day tasks.
Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?
My advice to students who are thinking about studying in Japan is go for it!! I have spent four years in Japan and it has been one of the best years of my life. With its beautiful cities, friendly people and delicious food you will feel like home.
