Please give a short introduction of yourself.

Hello. I am Megha Wadhwa from New Delhi. I moved to Japan in 2007 to study Japanese Language and presently I am Ph.D. Candidate at Sophia University. My journey in Japan has been long and fascinating and I would like it to be a never-ending one.

What is your favorite thing about Tokyo?

The past and the present world co-exist together in this city and this contrast surprises me often.

In what way has your impression of Tokyo or Japan changed since coming here?

The public transportation, the overall convenience in everyday life, the cleanliness in the environment and politeness of the Japanese people was beyond my imagination and are the aspects of Japan that I love to the core.

What attracted you to choose Sophia University as a place to study?

The international atmosphere was one of the attractions to the Sophia University. And I was impressed by the support I got from the faculty members and the office staff who always answered my queries.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

I was a pure vegetarian before I moved to Japan and turning myself into a non-vegetarian was the biggest adjustment I made. It was a personal choice as I really wanted to explore Japan more freely and I was curious to understand its food culture as well. And now I love the food here especially the buckwheat soba. But I do hope that Japan encourages vegetarianism so that the vegetarian foreigners can also enjoy the local delicacies to the maximum.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?

Japan is unique in many ways and there is so much one can learn from this country. I highly recommend spending a few years of your life in this country. As a student it would be a great idea to train yourself with basic language skills so that it is easier for you to adjust in your new surroundings.
