Please give a short introduction of yourself.

I am Sathiyamurthi Ramasamy doing PhD in Kyoto University in Atmospheric Chemistry field under the guidance of Prof. Yoshizumi Kajii. I came from Tamilnadu, southern India.

What is your favorite thing about Kyoto?

Food and sightseeing are the favorite things. I like many Japanese foods such as sushi, okonomiyaki, nabe, tempura, etc. Walking path along the kamo river is awesome since it provides place for relax, walk and enjoy the nature. I like the natural climbing pathway of hills in Kyoto such as Arashiyama, Hiei and Daimonji.

In what way has your impression of Kyoto or Japan changed since coming here?

Before I came to Kyoto, I knew a very few things such as it’s a cultural and historical city with many temples and it is very cold in winter and people are very kind but speak very little English. And I little bit afraid on how to adopt the food.
After reached Japan I experienced so many things. Kyoto is not only a cultural city but also modernised. There are many student communities in Kyoto university bring together Japanese students and international students and share talk and enjoy the short trips. I have seen restaurants of many countries such as Indian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, and Israel and tasted variety of foods. The transportation is very sophisticated in Kyoto and throughout the Japan as well. Fastest and punctual transportation provides to plan and organise travel very accurately.

What attracted you to choose Kyoto University as a place to study?

I like the science and technology in Japan. I found here attracting research in Atmospheric Chemistry in Kyoto university which made me to choose. And also it is great to opportunity for me to study one of the highest ranking universities in the world.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

I adapt to the Japanese food and eat with sticks. I use bicycle every day since the roads and sidewalks are very comfortable and safety. Bowing head to say hello.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?
