Please give a short introduction of yourself.
I'm Santhiya Nagarajan from India doing Biological & Chemical Engineering at Nagoya university. I graduated from a highschool in Tokyo. Japan has been my home away from home for the past five years.
What is your favorite thing about Nagoya?
Nagoya as a city is peaceful & has the right amount of entertainment that a student needs, to balance his academics and his life outside. It's cheaper than living in other cities in Japan but that doesn't mean you can't find anything.
In what way has your impression of Nagoya or Japan changed since coming here?
Compared to back home, Japan is way more convenient even if you've just arrived. Right from paying bills at the nearest store to getting down at a station according to the time and not by the name merely because it says it'll arrive at that time.Japanese punctuality has always surprised me. Japan has one of the finest services that a customer needs compared to any country I've visited.
What attracted you to choose Nagoya University as a place to study?
The wide variety of choices in a major gives one a feeling that the English courses are well established in Nagoya university than anywhere else and the student voices that appear on the website support the fact that it's indeed the right place to go to if you want to gain a deep sense of knowledge.
In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?
I rather found it easier to adapt to the Japanese culture as I preferred quiet places. It's good that the Japanese people tend to mind their business and not engage in conversations with strangers in buses & trains unlike the European and American countries. I feel it's rather easier to adapt to this kindness & won't take more than a month!
Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?
We need more Indians in Japan! I think you all are missing out on the most technologically developed country! Opportunities available in Japan are huge. They're well behaved towards foreigners. I would say it's by far the safest place to study and the most welcoming as well! So please join us and see for yourself the heaven we're living in!
