Please give a short introduction of yourself.

Hi everyone! I am a first-year computer science student from New Delhi! I love playing basketball, learning languages, travelling, reading science fictions, and Japanese food. Since my parents lived in Japan and Germany for some time in the past, I could speak different languages. My most favorite language is Japanese, so I took it as an additional language in high school and read a lot of comic books so that I could fulfill my dream to study in Japan.

What is your favorite thing about Hamamatsu, Shizuoka?

My favorite thing about Hamamatsu, where the Faculty of Informatics is located, is that it is very peaceful and quiet which helps in overall composure. The fact that this place is blessed with the harmony of nature while carrying a big city feel makes Hamamatsu a wonderful place to live as well as to study.

What attracted you to Shizuoka University?

It has always been my dream to study computer science in Japan with a scholarship. For me it was very important to study in Japanese language, as it would enable me to get a job in Japan. I found that Shizuoka University Asia Bridge Program is the best for me since I can study my favorite subject in Japanese with a full scholarship. Unlike other programs, intensive Japanese language training is included within the 4-year program, so no time is wasted. The best part is that Shizuoka is the automotive heart of Japan as well as many venture companies are situated, so I can do internships at great companies.

Describe the adjustment to Japanese culture.

I had been to Japan before, and I love Japanese food, so the adjustment was very smooth. Since Japanese culture is based on respect where everybody behaves like one big family, I was not at all worried about the social aspect. The only thing that worried me was that I could feel alone, but the worry was unnecessary because other students studying at Shizuoka University were very friendly from the beginning. There are many sport teams and clubs at the University, and I quickly joined the English conversation club to make friends. Also, since there are various part-time job opportunities here, I have no time to be bored, and I am enjoying every moment of my life in Shizuoka.

What have been your best experiences at Shizuoka University?

My best experience at Shizuoka University was being able to take an internship from the very first year. This was thanks to the great support from the university faculty and staff who recognized my skills and abilities. The kind of encouragement that I am getting here to bring the best out of me is really unforgettable.

Describe the friendships and connections you’ve made at Shizuoka University.

Asia Bridge Program of Shizuoka University has given me the opportunity to make friends from various countries across the world. Everyone including the faculty is very friendly and supportive here. They don't make you feel that you have come to a foreign country but rather treat you as one of their family members. Shizuoka University has also given me opportunities to have real work experience by giving me a chance to work in a company as an intern, which helps me open up new perspectives about the world.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new international student or researcher, what would it be?

Japan is the most advanced country in technology, and with the kind of facilities that are available here, students and researchers should be able to make the most of this opportunity. Try to get an internship at the best company possible. Learn Japanese to feel at home, and it would help you to get a good job and in making a lot of friends.

Any stories you would like to share about being an international student or researcher at Shizuoka University?

There are way too many great stories that I have made here in Shizuoka over the past 6 months and would like to share all because each and every one of them is way really beautiful and treasurable for me. But I have to choose, I think the ones I like the most are those small trips to different parts of Shizuoka to explore with a group of friends where we enjoy together a lot and take many photos so that we can capture and save our precious memories.
