The University of Tokyo Forests include several types of natural landscapes, many species of animals and plants, and historical heritage sites related to education and research. This book has been put together by staff of the University of Tokyo Forests who have selected 100 of the best highlights to be found in these forests. These have been compiled with the hope that the general public will gain a deeper recognition and appreciation for the ecological, cultural, and academic value of University of Tokyo Forests. The title, “Mori Tabi – Forest Journey,” implies that by visiting the rich and fascinating natural landscape of the forests, as well as the landmarks and academic facilities created through the long history between humans and the forests, visitors will learn of the long and deep connection between humans and forests, which will enrich their lives. This book has been compiled with the hope of proposing this new kind of “journey” through a collection of photos.

The highlights have been introduced with illustrations and beautiful photographs according to each University Forest and include different categories, advice and precautions for visiting, level of difficulty in accessing each highlight, and recommended seasons. In relation to the highlights that are easily accessible to visitors, should readers wish to visit these, it is recommended that they visit the actual forest area(s) at the appropriate times by referring to resources such as relevant websites. With that said, please enjoy the University of Tokyo Forests “Mori Tabi – Forest Journey!”
