Work Life Balance Support Subsidy Programs for Hiring Research Support Staff

For faculty members who are experiencing difficulties in securing enough time for research due to childbirth, childcare, nursing care, or other reasons, we will implement a program to support their work-life balance.

We will solicit applications for programs to provide subsidies for hiring research support staff in the second half of academic year 2023 as described.  
Please fill out the required information using the prescribed application form for each department you belong to.

The application period is from Tuesday, July 11, 2023 to Monday, September 4, 2023.

Work Life Balance Support Subsidy Programs for Hiring Research Support Staff

1.Subsidy Program for Hiring Research Support Staff to Support Those Who Are Raising Children

Eligible persons

Faculty members of UTokyo who are nurturing a child (or children) under school age and are having difficulties in securing enough time for research.

Amount of subsidy 

50,000 yen × number of months covered (maximum)

Period covered 

The first half of academic year 2023
Period within April 2023 to March 2024 during which the applicant will be nurturing a child (or children) under school age (a part of a month will be rounded up to a whole month)

The second half of academic year 2023 [maximum of 6 months]
Period within October 2023 to March 2024 during which the applicant will be nurturing a child (or children) under school age (a part of a month will be rounded up to a whole month)

2.Subsidy Program for Hiring Research Support Staff to Support Those Who Are Giving Care

Eligible persons

Faculty members of UTokyo to whom either of the following conditions apply and are having difficulties in securing enough time for research.
(i) Applicant is the primary caregiver of a relative who has been certified as in need of care
(ii) Applicant has other reasons similar to the above

Amount of subsidy 

50,000 yen × number of months covered (maximum)

Period covered 

The first half of academic year 2023:Period within April 2023 to March 2024
The second half of academic year 2023:Period within October 2023 to March 2024

3.Subsidy Program for Hiring Research Support Staff to Support Those Who Are Taking a Leave of Absence due to Pregnancy, Childbirth, Childcare, or Caregiving

Eligible persons

Faculty members of UTokyo who are taking a leave of absence due to pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, or caregiving, and require support during their leave of absence, but excludes those who can apply for “Financial sources for the personnel costs of replacements for those who are taking a leave of absence for childcare, etc.” (UTokyo Notice on Personnel Affairs No. 11 issued March 14, 2014).

Amount of subsidy [up to 300,000 yen]

50,000 yen × number of months covered (maximum)

Period covered[maximum of 6 months]

The first half of academic year 2023:Period within April 2023 to September 2023
The second half of academic year 2023:Period within October 2023 to March 2024
