Child and Family Care Support

There are four nurseries within the campus of UTokyo available for all faculties (Hongo Keyaki, Shirokane Himawari, Komaba Mukunoki and Kashiwa Donguri), which all opened in AY2008 to provide childcare services to meet the specific needs of the university, such as by accepting the children of researchers and students who wish to return to work or school in the middle of an academic year. The University of Tokyo Hospital also runs a nursery for specified faculties (The University of Tokyo Hospital Ichou Nursery School) , which was established in AY2007.

Eligible persons: faculty, staff members and students etc.

For faculty members who are experiencing difficulties in securing enough time for research due to childbirth, childcare, nursing care, or other reasons, the university offers financial support covering costs to employ short-time fixed-term faculty and staff members, and teaching, research and other assistants.

The university issues a certain discount coupon for babysitting services which provides a discount of up to 4,400 yen per child (two coupons’ worth) from the regular daily fee. (Applicable to both female and male faculty and staff members)
