Akazu Research Forest (AKRF) of the Ecohydrology Research Institute (formerly the University Forest in Aichi) was established in 1922. AKRF was originally established to develop technologies to restore widespread devastated forests in the region and to control sediment discharge from the devastated forest areas. Runoff from the devastated forests has also been measured since establishment of AKRF.

Attempts are now being made to elucidate the relationship between the forest soil, vegetation, water, and sediment based on long-term data obtained from runoff measurements taken since AKRF was established. At the same time, public lectures have been held since 1997 to allow not only researchers and students but also the general public to learn about the Ecohydrology Research Institute.

This leaflet (1) “Must-visit spots in the Akazu Research Forest of the University of Tokyo (2016 Revised Edition),” is a summary of useful information and points of interest for users visiting AKRF. The leaflet is an indispensable handbook for AKRF; it is affordable at only 500 yen and is easy to carry, making it convenient for field trips. It is highly recommended that you take this book along if you visit AKRF and see if you can discover new attractions.
