The University of Tokyo summer 2011 power crisis countermeasures were awarded the Energy Conservation Center’s Energy Conservation Grand Prize.The Energy Conservation Center rewards energy-saving projects promoted by domestic companies, local governments, and educational institutions. The award ceremony was held in Tokyo Big Sight on 30 January 2013, at which Professor Hiroshi Esaki from the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology introduced the project.

Quick planning and action for energy conservation, utilizing existing efforts and knowledge of the university
Highly valued efforts
・Energy conservation and low carbon-emissions efforts while maintaining a high standard of education and research activity
Achieved an independent target of 30% reduction of energy use (more than the 15% requested energy reduction) without reducing levels of education and research activity by continuing the efforts to reduce carbon emissions led by Todai Sustainable Campus Project.
