Undergraduate students who want to study at the University of Tokyo can study in the PEAK programs in English or the Global Science Course. All other undergraduate programs will require fluent Japanese. Please make sure you understand the University's undergraduate education system, learn about the Faculty to which you will apply and contact them with any questions about the Faculty. Contact the Admissions Office with any questions concerning applications. Many graduate programs (MA, PhD) can be taken in English or Japanese. For more details about programs available in English, please see the Degree Programs Offered in English for Graduate Students website. Please read the outline of graduate admissions which includes information about application deadlines, then contact the Graduate School to which you want to apply.
If your university has a student exchange agreement with the University of Tokyo, you can join the University-wide Student Exchange Program and may be able to earn credit at your home university for your study at the University of Tokyo (if your university is not on this list, you cannot join this program). Apply through the study abroad office at your own university. Students from our other partner institutions may also be able to study at the University of Tokyo for varying periods. Not all exchange agreements are university-wide agreements, so please make sure that your university's exchange agreement covers your faculty or graduate school. Please contact your own university's study abroad office for further details.
See the Prospective Students section for information about life on campus, including housing, tuition and financial support including the Japanese Government (MEXT) and other scholarships.
