The Tenth President’s Council Meeting held at Chulabhorn Research Institute in Bangkok, Thailand

The Tenth President’s Council Meeting was held at the Chulabhorn Research Institute in Bangkok, Thailand on 30th May, 2013.
On this occasion, the meeting was held at the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI) thanks to the kind invitation from Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand, a member of the Council and President of the research institute. Eight members of the Council(*) attended the meeting with President Junichi Hamada, Dr. Masako Egawa (Executive Vice President), Prof. Masashi Haneda (Vice President), Prof. Hiroshi Kiyono (Director of the Institute of Medical Science) and others.
Based on the theme of the speech “The University of Tokyo’s Strategy in Asia” given by President Hamada, active discussion took place concerning the university administration from a global viewpoint such as branding, cooperation with foreign partners, new scholarship systems, improvement of diversity and cooperation with stakeholders of the University including the enrolled students. In addition to this, four presentations were given: the introduction of the activity of the CRI by Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn, introduction of Thailand’s higher education policy by Ms. Varaporn (Deputy Secretary General of the Commission on Higher Education), introduction to research work carried out at the Institute of Medical Science from Prof. Kiyono, and public relations activity introduced by Dr. Egawa.
A welcome reception hosted by President Hamada and dinner hosted by Her Royal Highness were also held at CRI on the evening of 29th May. The next meeting of the President’s Council is scheduled to be held in Tokyo on 17th and 18th July, 2014.
