UTokyo Robotics Team Represents Japan at the 2016 ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest, Wins Three Awards

The UTokyo RoboTech robotics team (advisor: Prof. Yasuo Kuniyoshi, the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology) competed at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest held on August 21, 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand and won three awards: the ABU Robocon Award, 2nd Runner Up and a Special Award (the Nagase Award).
A total of 17 teams representing 16 countries, each the winner of a national competition in their country, competed on the strength of their mechatronics and software technology. The UTokyo RoboTech robotics team earned the right to represent Japan in this competition by winning the national 2016 NHK Robot Contest held in Tokyo in July.
Last Monday morning (August 15), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with RoboTech members in the Office of the Prime Minister, and extended words of encouragement to them regarding their challenge in Bangkok.
