UTokyo's Ice Hockey Team Wins at the Seven Universities Athletic Meet for the First Time in 46 Years

As the opening game of the Seven Universities Athletic Meet (7-Univ.), an ice hockey competition was held at the Higashiyamato Ice Arena and the Higashifushimi Skate Center from December 5 to 11, 2015.

7-Univ. is a championship tournament which seven national universities (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and Kyushu) take turns holding. Universities compete for overall victory by gaining points based on their results in each competition. The 55th tournament is being hosted by UTokyo.

After the round robin, the UTokyo Ice Hockey Team won the competition with 5 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw, beating the former 7-time consecutive champion, Hokkaido University. This win is UTokyo's first in 46 years. As a result, 10 points given for the ice hockey competition have been awarded to UTokyo. UTokyo has gotten off to a good start towards its first overall victory at the athletic meet in 4 years. The University has won the tournament a total of ten times.
