UTokyo Robotics Team Represents Japan at the 2018 ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest, Wins Three Awards

The UTokyo RoboTech robotics team (advisor: Prof. Yasuo Kuniyoshi, the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology) competed at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 in Ninh Binh, Vietnam and won three awards: the ABU Robocon Award, 2nd Runner Up and a Special Award (the Toyota Award).

A total of 18 teams representing 17 countries, each the winner of a national competition in their country, competed on the strength of their mechatronics and software technology. The UTokyo RoboTech robotics team earned the right to represent Japan in this competition by winning the national 2018 NHK Robot Contest held in Tokyo in June.

On August 15, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with RoboTech members in the Office of the Prime Minister, and extended words of encouragement to them regarding their challenge in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, ABU has announced the theme of the 2019 contest, entitled "GREAT URTUU".
