Report on the 31st East Asia Joint Symposium on Biomedical Research
The 31st East Asia Joint Symposium on Biomedical Research (EAJS) was held October 27-30, 2025, hosted by Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science (formerly Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, SIBCB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), under the theme of "Frontiers of Molecular Cell Science."
EAJS was launched in 1994 and has been hosted in rotation by the participating institutions (Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan). This symposium aims to facilitate the exchange of information and foster good relationships among top East Asian life science researchers.
This time, eight institutions in total participated:
The Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo (IMSUT)(Japan)
The Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Seoul National University (South Korea)
Soonchunhyang Institute of Medi-bio Science, Soonchunhyang University (South Korea)
Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (former SIBCB, CAS)(China)
Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, National Taiwan University (Taiwan)
Institute for Life and Medical Sciences, Kyoto University (Japan)
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (Japan)
ShanghaiTech University (China)
Vice Dean Tomoji Mashimo and eight researchers participated from IMSUT. PI presenters each gave a 15-minute oral presentation, after which questions and answers were actively exchanged. Regarding the young scientist/student session, each presenter gave a 10-minute short talk, and poster discussions were conducted.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the symposium, a commemorative lecture was given by Dr. Xin Cheng from CAS, who was the winner of this year's "Ken-ichi Arai Award" which was newly established at the 26th EAJS.
Dr. Kaiwen Liu and Ms. Ryoko Ando, participants in the young scientist session from IMSUT, received the "Outstanding Young Scientist Award" for their presentations. (Presentation title by Dr. Liu: Interleukin-33 bridges TBK1-MyD88 signaling and CD8+ T cell activation in lipid nanoparticle mRNA vaccination / Presentation title by Ms. Ando: Mutual regulation between ERK and MKP4 accelerates cell proliferation and tumorigenesis)
Next year, the 32nd EAJS will be hosted by Institute for Life and Medical Sciences, Kyoto University (LiMe)(Japan).
