2018 University of Tokyo Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony Held
The 2018 University of Tokyo Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony was held at Yasuda Auditorium on Friday, September 21, 2018.
The ceremony began at 10:00 with the University of Tokyo Orchestra's rendition of the “Divertimento in F major K138” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. President Makoto Gonokami, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Faculties and Graduate Schools and the directors of University Institutes then ascended to the stage dressed in their academic gowns. The ceremony continued with a speech from President Gonokami addressed to new students, followed by a speech from Dean of the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences Toshitake Kohno. Two new students (Ms. YE Ying, a Master's student from the Graduate School of Economics, and Ms. YAP Alyssa Castillo from the College of Arts and Sciences) then took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the University of Tokyo’s signature song, "Oozora to", by male chorus group Chor Akademie and female chorus group Coro Letizia, and another prominent University song, "Tada Hitotsu", by everyone in attendance.
