Regarding the shooting of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

We express our deepest grief and sadness over the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

We are deeply concerned that this incident is a potential threat to the foundation of democracy as it brings violence to our cherished principle of free speech.

As an institution committed to the public good of human society, the University of Tokyo firmly condemns any form of violence.
