Statement on the Invasion of Ukraine by Russia

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia is an attempt to change the international situation unilaterally by military force and is completely unacceptable. On behalf of the University of Tokyo, I express both my deepest concern about this situation and my fervent hope that a peaceful solution will be achieved through dialogue and negotiations in order to prevent further harm and suffering.

This crisis is likely to have a significant impact on faculty, students, and other members of the University of Tokyo community who have connections to Ukraine and Russia as well as on their families. We will continue to monitor the situation closely, provide support to people affected, and take other measures as necessary.
