● Organizers
This management school is organized by Japan Nuclear Human Resource Development Network (JN-HRD.net), National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), The University of Tokyo, and Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) and JAIF International Cooperation Center (JICC) in cooperation with IAEA.

● Objective
The purpose of this Japan-IAEA Joint Nuclear Energy Management School is to provide a unique international educational experience aimed at building future leadership to manage nuclear energy programmes, to nourish a wide range of knowledge on issues related to the peaceful use of nuclear technology, and to broaden individual networking with people interested in nuclear energy from all over the world.

The curriculum of this management school is designed to cover a range of topics that are relevant to the participating countries, which have been considering introducing or expanding nuclear power programmes. The young professionals of these countries will share the nuclear knowledge with the best experts available for this management school. It will enable the transfer of a wide range of specific knowledge to participating countries towards their capacity building efforts.

● Nature of this Management School
During this two and a half week management school, selected participants will be exposed to all modes of instruction and training activities such as lectures, site visits, discussions, group work and presentations. Around 40 experts from established world specialists including IAEA, Japan and overseas institutions deliver lectures and case studies. Both the lectures and the technical tour to the Fukushima region will give the participants deep insight about ways to implement the latest safety principles in their countries based on the lessons learned from Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident.
This management school addresses the following areas. All curricula will be adapted specifically to the needs of participating countries, which have more concrete plans to introduce or expand nuclear energy programmes.

● Background Information
There has been a growing demand all over the world for nuclear power as a sustainable energy source that is compatible with environmental stewardship. This trend has not been changed even after the occurrence of TEPCO-Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. Embarkation on a nuclear programme requires establishment of a sustainable national infrastructure that provides governmental, legal, regulatory, industrial, technological, administrative and human support throughout the life cycle of the programme.
The purpose of this management school is to strengthen transfer of nuclear knowledge to young professionals so that they build future leadership to manage nuclear energy programmes. It targets promising young professionals with managerial potential from rising developing countries – particularly newcomer countries that seek to develop nuclear power. A highly competent management is vital to the success at all stages of development of a nuclear programme. To assist participating countries in achieving this goal, the organizers have designed a comprehensive curriculum to support a capacity building in a defined region. This management school aims to broaden the understanding of the current issues which need to be tackled by young professionals.
