This event features a keynote address and panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities that geopolitical shifts and technological innovation present to the U.S.-Japan Alliance. The session will highlight priority initiatives for both nations to strengthen deterrence and defense against shared threats.
■ Keynote Speaker: Michèle Flournoy
Michèle Flournoy served as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy from February 2009 to February 2012. As the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense on national security and defense policy, she led the development of the 2012 Strategic Defense Guidance. She is the Co-Founder and Chair of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), as well as Co-Founder and Managing Partner of WestExec Advisors. She holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a master's degree in International Relations from Oxford University.
Through this address by Ms. Flournoy—who has shaped U.S. defense policy at the highest levels of government and contributed extensively to policy research—participants will gain practical, real-world insights into the future of the U.S.-Japan Alliance from a policymaking perspective.
